Five Uplifting Quotes About Mental Health Awareness
As I discussed in my previous post, May is Mental Health Awareness Month. From my perspective, as someone diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder and generalized anxiety disorder, the most important reasons for bringing awareness to mental health have to do with:
Removing the stigmas surrounding getting help or even discussing mental health;
Showing compassion and understanding for those who have been diagnosed with mental illness;
Providing a nurturing, supportive environment for healing; and
Giving hope and encouragement for those who suffer.
The words of these five touching and uplifting mental health quotes do all of the above and more:
Mental health problems don’t define who you are. They are something you experience. You walk in the rain and you feel the rain, but you are not the rain.”
~ Matt Haig
Some of the most comforting words in the universe are “me too.” That moment when you find out that your struggle is also someone else’s struggle that you’re not alone, and that others have been down the same road.
~Unknown
You, yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe, deserve your love and affection.
~Unknown
*Often attributed to Buddha, but because it’s been disputed, we attribute this quote to “Unknown”
My dark days made me strong. Or maybe I already was strong, and they made me prove it.
~Emery Lord
There is hope, even when your brain tells you there isn’t.
~John Green
Please feel free to share and pin these quotes as much as you like. Thank you!
